Compare Mattresses

Nothing can be quite as confusing as trying to buy a new mattress. Because most mattresses look pretty much the same on the outside, most people have no idea how to assess what is in the inside. Deciding you want to compare mattresses is difficult because most of us are so uninformed about what to look for. Many stores have been touting the benefits of "memory foam" mattresses, and they do have their advantages, but at least for now are quite pricey.

When you compare mattresses there are a few features that you will want to consider and look at closely. The first is what is called the ticking. The ticking is the material that covers the outside of the mattress. If you like the feeling of sinking into the top of your bed you will want to look for a quilted top mattress. If a firmer feel is more your style, look at a more traditional tightly woven covering.

Another aspect to consider when you compare mattresses are the coils. If you like a loose relaxed feeling, you want a bed with fewer coils in the mattress. However, if you like a nice firm feel to your bed, more coils become necessary. Perhaps pillow top mattresses are your preference when it comes to comfort. The best way to determine if you like the bed is to lay down on it right in the store. While most people feel awkward doing this, the fact remains that this is the best way to test out a bed you are considering. There are no rules or regulations that must be followed by bed manufacturers as far as firmness. Because of this most manufacturer's guidelines for a soft, firm or extra firm mattress can vary greatly.

One of the best things to do when you compare mattresses is to wait out the sales. Shop ahead and decide which bed is best for you. Both furniture and mattress companies regularly hold sales that can save you quite a bit of money.

Remember when you compare mattresses that there are a lot of stores and manufacturers to choose from. Don't forget to lay down on the bed and try it out before you buy, even if you feel a little silly.
